The We Can Club is a social club designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The club offers a range of fun activities such as karaoke, bingo, crafts, and games that are intended to provide a supportive environment where individuals can build social connections, improve communication skills, and have fun. The primary focus of the club is on socialization, although there are occasional life skills activities as well.

Social interaction is crucial for people with IDD, as it can improve their overall quality of life. Here are some benefits of social interaction for individuals with IDD:

  • Improves communication skills: Socializing with others can help individuals with IDD develop their communication skills, including their ability to express themselves, listen, and understand others.
  • Boosts self-esteem: Socializing can help individuals with IDD feel more confident and valued, which can improve their self-esteem and sense of self-worth.
  • Enhances social skills: Socializing can provide individuals with IDD with opportunities to practice social skills such as turn-taking, sharing, and problem-solving.
  • Reduces isolation: Socializing can help individuals with IDD feel less isolated and more connected to their community, which can improve their overall well-being.

Here are some of the types of activities that the We Can Club offers:

  • Karaoke: Individuals can sing their favorite songs and showcase their talents.
  • Bingo: Participants can play this classic game and win prizes.
  • Crafts: Individuals can make fun and creative projects to take home.
  • Games: Participants can play a variety of games, including board games and card games.

The We Can Club meets in person at The Arc office in Aberdeen, Washington on the second Thursday of every month from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. No registration is required to participate. By joining the We Can Club, individuals with IDD can enjoy a fun and supportive environment where they can build social connections, improve their communication skills, and have a great time.
